Orton Scar - Geology CPD Walk

This walk is in a beautiful quiet corner of Cumbria that also happens to be in the Yorkshire Dales National Park – the wonderful Westmorland Dales. The walk is being led by a great geologist and will take us back 350 million years ago, to the Carboniferous; England was near the Equator in a tropical environment and the modern day Yorkshire Dales were under a tropical sea with delta systems, forming the sandstones and limestones we find here today. We’ll make a journey and discover Thunderstones, limestone pavement and even a few fossils. Funds from the walk will go towards supporting our program of free Wellness Walks for anyone with low mental, physical or social health – the walk is a great opportunity to learn more about the charity as we’ll be joined by Kelvyn, the founder of Wellness Walks.

Lead by: Jodie ~ Walk Leader

What did you think of the walk?

Excellent

Jodie led the walk brilliantly, taking time to chat to all of us individually as well as giving us as a group an invaluable lesson on the geology of the area. Fossils, Thunderstones, coral features and much, much more 👍

How did the walk help you?

I’m preparing for Mountain Leader Assessment and this was a CPD day to teach me about geology. Jodie explained everything so clearly and is so passionate about her subject…a passion that is infectious! Many thanks Jodie, a fab walk 👍😊

Would you come on a walk again?

Yes! I would love to go again.
