Wellness-on-Water KataKanu 22-09-2026

A relaxed canoe journey on Derwentwater, suitable for complete beginners. Using a specialist craft which is extremely stable with plenty of space to be comfortable and very social. There is no need to get wet! You might need to step in the water to launch/land so wet feet but there’s fair chance we can keep them dry too! We’ll launch onto the lake, spend some time getting the hang of paddling and then make a short journey to see the Lake District from a whole new perspective We’ll provide a buoyancy aid for everyone, swimming ability isn’t necessary. Canoeing can be a great option for people who find walking tricky. Please let us know if this is you so we can make sure we get it right for you.

What did you think of the walk?

Excellent

This was an evening trip so I was able to fit it around my schedule of volunteering. There were also planned session in the morning and afternoon so open to everyone. The instructor gave us training on how to use a paddle and the the boat was very stable so I had no fear of falling in, safety vests were provided. Beth provided information on the Fells around the lake as well as the names of the islands we passed.

How did the walk help you?

I had had quite a stressful day and moving over the water with such beautiful scenery which was so peaceful. Meeting other people from across the County was also enjoyable. After the two hour session I felt so relaxed. It was an experience that I would not have done on my own, so thank you very much to Kelvin and Beth for providing this extremely enjoyable trip.

Would you come on a walk again?

Yes! I would love to go again.
