Karl joins the Team – Wellness Walks Lancashire

Wellness Walks launch in Lancashire

We’ve been working on making this happen for a while – so we’re super pleased to say Wellness Walks will be launching in Lancashire in the New Year – Jan 4th 2023 to be precise!

International Mountain Leader & all round nice chap Karl will be leading most of the Lancashire Wellness Walks for us – as well as popping up in Cumbria from time to time & joining our Volunteer Mentor Team. You can read a bit more about him below….

Karl tells us a bit about himself....

I’ve worked as an International Mountain Leader guiding groups through the mountains of Europe, Scandinavia, North Africa for over 20 years. Before that I lectured, taught outdoor education & sport in colleges, schools & outdoor centres. I hold a number of leadership awards and am also a qualified teacher & lecturer.

A mental health crisis with a very sick client and what I felt was an inability at the time, to offer or direct her towards long term mental health advice or help, led me to find  a First Aid for Mental Health course run by Kelvyn (who was already a friend & professional colleague). I’m now qualified in First Aid for Mental Health & know I’ll be ready to help if there’s ever a next time

After Covid and shocked at the lack of accessible, easy paced, or even interesting, activities in Lancashire, initially to aid my own recovery, I started offering my own walks. As its popularity grew & after many ‘chats’ with Kelvyn it became clear that the group would benefit from being part of Wellness Walks. This allows me to do what I do best and enjoys the most – leading, teaching & chatting with people.

Whilst still leading some overseas groups, I’ve returned to my roots in the Lancashire Pennines, leading Wellness Walks, as well as longer but easy paced rambles and skills building courses in the wider area.

I’m excited to be joining the Wellness Walks Team.

Wellness Walks Lancashire

We’re launching with walks in January, February & March – but there’ll be more dates going up over the next few weeks and through the year.

These Wellness Walks are totally free for anyone with self-reported low mental health – like all our walks and events they’re a safe and supportive way to get out and engage with nature and other people. Most walks (currently) are mid-week on a Wednesday – but follow the link below to find out more.
