Working with Families & Under 18’s

Adventures with families and U18s

While many leadership awards holders both on land and water end up working with young people and families, very few of the awards have much (or any!) content about the joys, challenges and practicalities of that.

This session is great “starter pack” or refresher for leaders and trainees who either want to explore working with families and young people or who already are and want to feel more equipped and less like they’re completely winging it. Although, we’ll quickly learn that the ability to wing it is pretty important!

A fact finding / myth busting overview of some of the admin and legalities of bringing U18s into adventurous activities. Some facilitated discussions around things like pre- walk information, route planning, balancing different needs, matching parents and leaders responsibilities and crucially making sure everyone has fun!

This is an interactive session. There will be breakout groups, BUT there is no pressure to have sound/video on and you are equally welcome to contribute in
whatever way works for you or to simply listen in.

Wellness Walks CPD sessions pay our facilitator a respectful wage for their expertise – and surplus goes towards funding the charitable activities of Wellness Walks – typically a full workshop allows us to offer a disadvantaged individual a free place on a Hill or Mountain Skills Course.
Please pay what you can.

While we take every precaution to ensure your safety on our events (physically, psychologically and emotionally), all outdoor activities involve an inherent and unavoidable risk of an accident occurring that could lead to personal injury. All of our Walk Leaders are qualified in First Aid and carry emergency equipment to deal with emergencies. Walk Leaders are also trained to dynamically alter the route or plan for the day based on numerous potential factors - any decision to do so is fully authorised and expected by Wellness Walks. All participants should take an active role in minimising risks - so if you have a concern please speak up, if you feel unwell or unable to continue tell the leader.
