Why Night Nav?
Firstly – it’s fun!
Seriously – “poor visibility navigation” is a mandatory part of Hill & Moorland Leader and possibly the most dreaded part of Mountain Leader.
We see more people who are anxious about this than any other part of the syllabus. These progressive sessions are designed to give you the skills & confidence to know you can get yourself and a group off the hill if you’re caught out by failing daylight.
All of our Instructors will hold a minimum of ML and will have worked on multiple training and assessment courses, but more importantly we’ve been running these sessions for over a decade – we know what works and what catches most folks out.

Intro to Night Nav
Don’t make the mistake of missing out this session thinking you already know…starting from a solid base of skills and progressing is the way these sessions have been designed/
We’ll try to head out into the gloaming and work in small groups on those all important foundational skills.

Intermediate Night Nav
This session will take place in more challenging terrain – we’ll look at adding more complex skills to our toolbox and considering strategies for simplifying stressful situations and maximising positive outcomes.

Night Nav Ninja
This session takes the form of a fun competition. You’ll work in pairs for safety and head out navigating to exactly the same sort of points the Instructor would expect you to head to on a ML assessment . Some may even be harder….
Book a Space
These sessions go towards funding the charitable activities of Wellness Walks – typically a full Night Nav workshop allows us to offer a disadvantaged individual a free place on a Hill or Mountain Skills Course.
Please pay what you can.
Informed Consent - we want you to know what risk is involved
While we take every precaution to ensure your safety on our walks (physically, psychologically and emotionally), all outdoor activities involve an inherent and unavoidable risk of an accident occurring that could lead to personal injury. All of our Walk Leaders are qualified in First Aid and carry emergency equipment to deal with emergencies. Walk Leaders are also trained to dynamically alter the route or plan for the day based on numerous potential factors - any decision to do so is fully authorised and expected by Wellness Walks. All participants should take an active role in minimising risks - so if you have a concern please speak up, if you feel unwell or unable to continue tell the leader.
Sorry, This walk is experiencing technical difficulties! Please check back later and if the problem persists contact our team.
