Tell us a bit about your journey to becoming a Wellness Walk Leader

When I saw the recruitment advert from Wellness Walks and looked in to their purpose I realised it gave me a chance to help others and share the wonders of the natural environment and its life-giving qualities.

What were your expectations before training started? How did you feel?

I was nervous at first but I wanted to learn how to support others to get outside. This was a great learning experience to improve my skills and abilities.

Which part of the qualification process did you enjoy the most & why?

The mutual support from our group and Kelvyn’s energy!

Were there any parts of the training that were challenging?

Going back to basics and forgetting about poor practice learned over time – it was an excellent refresher!

What's been the personal inpact of becoming a Wellness Walk Leader?

It has given me the confidence to get out there with my ideas – for walks, for helping people, for supporting my local community.

I really enjoy the interactions with people who come on the walks and seeing their ability to exceed their own expectations. It’s great when people ask me for information about Wellness Walks and I can tell them about the other walks happening locally.

Its great to see the relief people have in sharing their stories, talking out loud and realising they are not alone.

Can you share a memorable moment from one of your walks?

I had two participants who decided to have a childhood moment after we’d had lunch  – and off they went to play on the swings.

How has this role impacted your own mental health, confidence, or skills?

It has raised my awareness and enabled me to have greater confidence when discussing issues with others.

Final Thoughts

If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering volunteering with Wellness Walks, what would it be?

Have an open mind and feel empowered to challenge your own beliefs.

Where do you think your own journey with Wellness Walks will go?

Its helping me to be a better version of myself and encourages me to explore new locations and challenges.

I’d like to go on and do further walking qualifications to be able to take people into different areas and terrain.

How would you describe your experience with Wellness Walks in three words?

Curiosity. Exploring. Enjoyable.

Sharing is caring!
