I dont really have a favourite, they’ve all been good !! – But this is a picture of the Grasmere Circular walk led by Mark.

Tell us how Wellness Walks has helped You

Was walking new to you? Something you used to do, wanted to try or already did?

Yes, walking was completely new to me.

For the last 2 decades (my whole adult life nearly) I was pursuing a life that although I thought it was the best life ever for a time, it was actually hugely damaging to me mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally. It took a lot of courage to recognise that the way of life I was living was not what I thought i was and I had to leave that life behind and start a afresh. Doing that meant completely rebuilding myself – finding a new social structure, finding out what I enjoyed, discovering out what mattered to me, what my values were, what made me happy. It was at this point, almost 2 years ago, that I went on my first wellness walk.

What do you enjoy most about attending Wellness Walks?

I love the ethos of Wellness Walks- its not simply about getting from the A-B, the start to the finish – its about taking in your surroundings, appreciating nature and life, having time to reflect and feel gratitude whilst finding pride in your ability to achieve something on the walk. The walk leaders are friendly and always supportive of your pace. I also really appreciate the leaders’ knowledge of the walks from a physical point of view as id get completely lost on my own.

How has taking part in Wellness Walks impacted your own mental, physical or social health?

Physically my stamina and endurance have improved. ive discovered some beautiful parts of the country that id never have had the opportunity to see before. The life changing situation i mentioned earlier that I had come away from, could potentially have impacted me very negatively, however by being proactive, positive and making good choices, and keeping up a healthy routine including attending wellness walks, i have been successful in overcoming challenges and I am looking to the future with eagerness.
