Wrexham Volunteer Scheme 2026

Wellness Walks is coming to Wrexham!

Thanks to the support of the fabulous folks at the National Lottery Community Fund for Wales we’re excited to announce we’re bringing the Wellness Walks Volunteer Training Scheme to the communities of Wrexham and its surrounding areas

We were partnership of the year in Gwynedd – and we’re aiming to bring that same level of wonderful to Wrexham – so if this sounds like something you’d like to be involved in then read on….

And the best bit? – places on this scheme are fully funded – there’s no cost to you – for the successful applicants we’re going to supply all the training and pick up the forward costs – we want there to be Wellness Walks available for as many people as possible in our communities.

What's involved & how do you apply?

You’ll need to be able to:

(1) Attend 3 training weekends events (2-days each) in the vicinity of Wrexham (depending on applicants locations)

(2) Attend a 1-day course.

(3) Complete 3 short online training sessions (evening based)

Our Volunteer Training Scheme will deliver the following courses, all of which are recognised qualifications that could also be used elsewhere,  at no cost to participants:

Lowland Leader Training

First Aid for Mental Health

Safeguarding

Outdoor First Aid

Lowland Leader Assessment

We’ll also be giving our volunteers access to mentoring, shadowing and assisting opportunities, further cpd courses as well as insuring them, supplying them with safety equipment and taking care of that boring admin stuff. Exciting.

Who can apply?

We want our Wellness Walks volunteers to be as diverse as the people who benefit from our walks – so our training scheme is open to anyone who can meet the requirements of the qualifications we’re delivering (that bit is out of our control – but if you really think you’d be ace and you’ve concerns you might not qualify we’re happy to have a chat & possibly advocate for you).

You’ll need to be able to attend a total of 8 course days – but you’ll get much more from the scheme if you’re also able to shadow existing leaders and take part in some of our open events.

You’ll need to be able to prove your experience by logging 10 lowland walks prior to attending the first training and a minimum of another 10 walks prior to the assessment.

If you, or someone you know, think that this might be something you’d like to be involved in then feel free to drop us a line to register your interest & we’ll send you a lot more info!
