Fancy bringing Wellness Walks to your community?
updated 2025...
When we first wrote this we just had the inkling of an idea – since then it’s grown, it’s developed and we’re super proud that we now have volunteers all over the UK.
The concept that getting out into nature for a walk with other people is good for us is something that a lot of people can see the benefit of really quickly. We want as many people as possible in as many places as possible to be able to take the first steps to feeling better.
But…we want them to be able to do so safely, with people who are fully qualified to make sure its a safe, supportive and totally free day out. So we offer a Wellness Walks Volunteer Leader Training Scheme – basically we will train you (actual nationally recognised (OfQual) qualifications, support you, mentor you, equip you, insure you & take care of 95% of the admin of putting on Walks – you repay this investment in you by delivering Wellness Walks in (or for) your community.
If this sounds like something you’d like to be involved with then read on….
How can you get involved?
Wellness Walks want as many people as possible, in as many places as possible, to be able to get out into nature in a safe and supported way. At our heart is the simple idea that time spent outdoors with other people is beneficial to both our mental and physical health. All Wellness Walks are always totally free to the participants and are always delivered by fully qualified leaders.
The team at Wellness Walks have decades of experience in helping people get outside, in delivering training from entry-level to expert, in giving people the confidence to step up. But we also know that for far to many people their are barriers to doing so – cost, lack of opportunity, fear of the unknown – and we spent a long-time working out how to remove those barriers – how to help people do the bit that really matters – supporting their communities. And so our volunteer training scheme was born, we finished 2025 with over 75 wonderful wellness walk leaders across the UK – and we’re just getting started.
The scheme offers volunteers nationally recognised qualifications so that they (& our participants) know that they’re competent – that they’ll make sure a Wellness Walk is always a safe and supportive space.
If you want to make a difference to your community – to share your love of the outdoors – then this might be just the thing you’ve ben looking for.
Volunteers receive:
- Lowland Leader Training
- First Aid for Mental Health
- Safeguarding
- Outdoor First Aid
- Lowland Leader Assessment
We’ll also be giving our volunteers access to mentoring, shadowing and assisting opportunities, further cpd courses as well as insuring them, getting them deals on personal kit and taking care of that boring admin stuff – we want our volunteers to be doing the thing they volunteered to do – helping their communities to he healthier and happier. Exciting.
Who can apply?
We want our Wellness Walks volunteers to be as diverse as the people who benefit from our walks – so our training scheme is open to anyone who can meet the requirements of the qualifications we’re delivering (that bit is out of our control – but if you really think you’d be ace and you’ve concerns you might not qualify we’re happy to have a chat & possibly advocate for you).
