Love is Love: A Heart-Shaped Walk Around Ben Shee

Join Vicky to mark Valentine’s Day on this LGBTQ+ hike in Glen Sherup. Our 10km heart-shaped route will take us around Ben Shee with an opportunity to climb it if you would like and conditions allow. There are excellent views and some fine native woodlands regenerating thanks to the work of the Woodland Trust. The walk will be at a steady pace, include opportunities to pause and take in the views, and provide time for conversation and connection along the way. Allies are warmly welcome. Come as you are, be your authentic self, and know that wherever you find yourself in life, Vicky will meet you there. Love is love.

This walk is to support the LGBTQ+ Community

At Wellness Walks, running dedicated Walk & Talk sessions that actively welcome and support the LGBTQ+ community is an important part of our commitment to equity, kindness, and belonging. Many LGBTQ+ people experience higher levels of isolation, anxiety, and discrimination, which can make accessing outdoor spaces and group activities feel daunting or unsafe. By offering totally free walks led by fully qualified, experienced, and supportive leaders, we help remove those barriers and create a space where people can simply be themselves. These walks are not about labelling or separating people, but about ensuring that everyone—regardless of identity—can take their first steps towards feeling better, connect with nature, and find community in a calm, respectful, and inclusive environment. These walks are open to anyone from the community or supportive allies who want to foster inclusion.

Terrain Waymarked paths, but rough going on the hill and often wet in places. The route is a mix of undulating and hilly with an optional ascent of Ben Shee. Vicky is a qualified Mountain Leader & she’s also qualified in First Aid for Mental Health & Outdoor First Aid – so you know she’ll keep you safe and make your Wellness Walk a safe and supportive space.

Vicky says “It’s really hard to choose favourite walks because I’m so spoiled for choice! One of my go-to places in Fife is the Falkland Estate. It’s got hills moorland and forest and fantastic views across to the mountains. My favourite walk of all time has been crossing Scotland on the Great Outdoors Challenge. 2 weeks of solo backpacking from Acharacle to Stonehaven. Bliss!”

Informed Consent - we want you to know what risk is involved

While we take every precaution to ensure your safety on our walks (physically, psychologically and emotionally), all outdoor activities involve an inherent and unavoidable risk of an accident occurring that could lead to personal injury. All of our Walk Leaders are qualified in First Aid and carry emergency equipment to deal with emergencies. Walk Leaders are also trained to dynamically alter the route or plan for the day based on numerous potential factors - any decision to do so is fully authorised and expected by Wellness Walks. All participants should take an active role in minimising risks - so if you have a concern please speak up, if you feel unwell or unable to continue tell the leader.

  • Hill & Moorland Walks

    Hill & Moorland walks may involve sections that are off path on steep but not rocky terrain and participants should be suitably equipped for this. We expect our leaders not to turn a blind eye to unsuitable clothing or footwear as it may lead to problems later in the day - please make sure you've read the recommended kit list. Be aware that Hill & Moorland Walks will involve ascent and descent (included in the walk description) and a level of fitness is required - but our leaders will make sure that the group stays together and walks at a suitable pace.

    Because these walks go a little higher it may also be a little cooler and the weather can change a little quicker.

    Participants are required to read the walk description and kit list and may not be allowed to take part on the walk if they do not have suitable clothing or footwear.
