Got some quals already?
We'd love to have you join our volunteer team
updated 2025...
We now have funding in place to add 12-16 wonderful new leaders to the team – if you’ve a walking qualification then will give you qualifications in First Aid for Mental Health, Safeguarding and, if you need it, Outdoor First Aid – we’ll also support you in a host of other ways too!
When we first wrote this we just had the inkling of an idea – since then it’s grown, it’s developed and we’re super proud that we now have volunteers all over the UK ~ but we’re always keen to have more good folks join the team.
The concept that getting out into nature for a walk with other people is good for us is something that a lot of people can see the benefit of really quickly. We want as many people as possible in as many places as possible to be able to take the first steps to feeling better.
But…we want them to be able to do so safely, with people who are fully qualified to make sure its a safe, supportive and totally free day out.
Provable competence….big words for a simple idea – we expect all of our walk & water leaders to be provably competent – and for us (and our participants & insurers) that means qualified and with suitable experience.
But – that may well mean you – and if you only have some of the below then we might well be able to support you to get the ones you don’t.
The minimum we expect our volunteers to have is:
- A relevant activity qualification (so this could be Lowland Leader, Mountain Leader, Paddle Sport Leader etc etc).
- A First Aid for Mental Health Qualification (we do not accept the MHFA England course, it is not a qualification).
- Have attended our Safeguarding L3 Course (or have higher and be able to answer a quick quiz).
- An Outdoor First Aid certificate that is relevant to the activity you'd like to volunteer to deliver.
Don’t worry if you’re missing any of these – we’ll find you no-cost places on any you’re missing if we can.
What are we looking for?
Wellness Walks (& now Wellness-on-Water) was born out of the idea of giving something back and supporting others to take the first steps to feeling better. At our heart is the simple idea that time spent outdoors with other people is beneficial to both our mental and physical health. All Wellness Walks are always totally free to the participants and are always delivered by fully qualified leaders.
We believe that volunteers are best engaged when we empower them to deliver sessions that matter to them – that can mean in support of their chosen community (in whatever sense community is important to them; such as geographical, identity, faith etc), in certain environments (Lowland, Mountain, Water…) or locations & simply when and how often they can manage. So if you’ve an idea then chat to us & we’ll see if we can make it work.
We’ll support, promote & empower you to do your own little bit of good in your own way – because we know its all those little bits of good put together that change the world for the better.
Who can apply?
We want our Wellness Walks volunteers to be as diverse as the people who benefit from our walks – so if you’ve some of the qualifications above – or others you think would be beneficial then we’d love to hear from you wherever you are in the UK.
If you’ve more questions then use the contact form to reach out to us – but if you think Wellness Walks might be a good way for you to give a little back then fill out the form below:
