Murthly Castle River Side Stroll

This walk is a 5 mile loop along the river Tay through the grounds of Murthly castle. This also forms part of the Tay way from Loch Tay to Perth. Salmon fishing is in season so we’ll definitely see some fishermen if not a leaping salmon! The walk will take around 3 hours but we will negotiate pace as we go and ensure we all have a good time.

Chris M. ~ Walk Leader

Chris is a qualified Lowland Leader & he’s also qualified in First Aid for Mental Health & Outdoor First Aid – so you know he’ll keep you safe and make your Wellness Walk a safe and supportive space.

Chris is based in Highland Perthshire where the land rises up from the Highland fault line. He says “I love the variety of landscape I have on my doorstep: rocky crags, giant larches, moorland that opens up and expansive carse give a huge variety of places to explore. We often forget the diversity of Scottish scenery when we get spend too long looking at the picture postcards.”
One of my favourite places is around the Sma’ Glen and Glen Almond where the landscape and the history collide. Look closely at an OS Map and you find Thieves Cave, Eagle Rock, Giant’s Grave. Being outdoors fuels my creativity and I love to create the stories of the past as I go.
There are many things to share but my top tip is to approach a walk with curiosity not certainty. We get so caught up in needing certainty we often miss out on opportunity. When we are curious, we spark questions, stories and ideas. The thoughts are often more important than the answers!

While we take every precaution to ensure your safety on our walks (physically, psychologically and emotionally), all outdoor activities involve an inherent and unavoidable risk of an accident occurring that could lead to personal injury. All of our Walk Leaders are qualified in First Aid and carry emergency equipment to deal with emergencies. Walk Leaders are also trained to dynamically alter the route or plan for the day based on numerous potential factors - any decision to do so is fully authorised and expected by Wellness Walks. All participants should take an active role in minimising risks - so if you have a concern please speak up, if you feel unwell or unable to continue tell the leader.

  • Lowland Walks

These walks will follow paths, trails and lanes that are clearly visible on both the ground and the map (with the exception of very minor alterations). The risk on these walks  is low - but traffic, waterways and other hazards may still be encountered.

Participants are required to read the walk description and kit list and may not be allowed to take part on the walk if they do not have suitable clothing or footwear.
