overview

This is a trip out from Millom – we’ll be going to stunning High Dam near Finsthwaite.

This Walk & Talk session will be  a 2-3 hour walk with lots of opportunities to stop & stare, to pause & ponder. We’ll be on a steep but surprisingly easy path – and it’ll take us up to a beautiful hidden spot.

Details:

We’ll be meeting at the Tin Chapel in Millom at 10am – and aiming to be back between 3-4pm – we’ll travel to Finsthwaite in a minibus provided by Wellness Walks – because of this participants must book on to the event as spaces will be limited.

Please note: There is an approximately 45minute drive each way.

Our  plan will be to walk up through ancient woodland past low dam and it’s dragonflies to the wonderfully situated High Dam. From here we’ll take a good track around the lake & pick a spot for lunch – we may even get the chance to dip our toes in the water. As ever there’ll be lots of opportunities to stop and simply enjoy where we are, to have a natter & to let our worries fade away. Kelvyn runs lots of nature workshops here – so we might even get to see some rare lichens or a slow worm!

There are lots of little detours, a raised walkway and a host of fallen trees and rocks to explore.

The walk should take 2-3 hours – but we’ll be taking our time, stopping a lot and generally taking it easy whilst we take in the views – but participants must be confident they can manage the walk. There are no cafes or facilities on this walk.

Cold Weather Not Expected!

At this time of the year in the UK the weather can be very mixed.
Participants will need to have warm clothing (including a spare top) as whilst we will be moving we may well also be stood around looking at things and will get colder than we trhink.

Wet Weather

Whatever the forecast participants must have waterproof jackets and trousers – BUT don’t worry if you don’t own any – we can lend you both so long as you let us know when you book on to the event.

Kit List

  • Sturdy walking shoes/boots – we’ll occasionally be on rough ground
  • Waterproofs
  • Warm clothes – bring a spare jumper!
  • Hat & Gloves
  • Lunch, snacks & drink
  • Camera/phone -its all about the pics!

This walk is completely free to participants – you’ll just need to fill in a questionnaire (we never share your details) to meet our funding partners requirements.

If the above sounds good then you can book a place here – places are limited but we run these walks several times a year – so if its already booked then join our waiting list and you’ll be given priority next time. We’re happy have the same participants in each series of walks – so you can find details of the others below.
