Skell Gill Loop

A walk this pretty is worth revisiting right? Join me on this delightful loop from Bainbridge to Skell Gill and back. We head along the old railway line with spectacular views ahead of us of Wether Fell, turning north and east on an easy undulating path through grassy pastures winding our way towards the hamlet of Skell Gill with views of Wensleydale ahead that many never see! At Skell Gill we turn south and head back towards Bainbridge. The walk undulates gently with many stiles to negotiate, and in wet conditions a few pastures can become extremely boggy. There may be livestock along the way.

Walk Leader - Jo L.

Jo is a qualified Mountain Leader & she’s also qualified in First Aid for Mental Health & Outdoor First Aid – so you know she’ll keep you safe and make your Wellness Walk a supportive space to get out into nature and engage with other folks.

Jo is based in Cumbria but adores the Dales – so she’ll pop up in different places from time to time.
Jo tells us her favourite local walk is The slog up to Great Shunner out of Hardraw – part of the Pennine Way. In Spring & early summer its alive with ground nesting birds. Lower down it’s not uncommon to see red squirrels scampering along the walls, the longer grasses either side of the stony path are alive with butterflies & as you climb the walled path sits high with the fells dropping away to each side. The Lapwings fly almost level with you & you’re so close to them you can hear them inhaling before they let out their characteristic peewit call.

Her favourite walk anywhere is in the Dales (of course!) and is in Wharfedale – up Cam Head from Kettlewell and to Buckden – coming back along the river – view that have put a smile on her face for over 30 years.
Jo’s fun fact is that she drank out of a puddle on the last day of the Pennine Way.

Jo’s top tip is…don’t drink out of puddles!

Informed Consent - we want you to know what risk is involved

While we take every precaution to ensure your safety on our walks (physically, psychologically and emotionally), all outdoor activities involve an inherent and unavoidable risk of an accident occurring that could lead to personal injury. All of our Walk Leaders are qualified in First Aid and carry emergency equipment to deal with emergencies. Walk Leaders are also trained to dynamically alter the route or plan for the day based on numerous potential factors - any decision to do so is fully authorised and expected by Wellness Walks. All participants should take an active role in minimising risks - so if you have a concern please speak up, if you feel unwell or unable to continue tell the leader.

  • Lowland Walks

These walks will follow paths, trails and lanes that are clearly visible on both the ground and the map (with the exception of very minor alterations). The risk on these walks  is low - but traffic, waterways and other hazards may still be encountered.

Participants are required to read the walk description and kit list and may not be allowed to take part on the walk if they do not have suitable clothing or footwear.
