A fun day for families to learn the skills to enjoy adventures together. After some time together, kids will have the option to head off on thier own adventure with an instructor with the sole aim of facilitating fun! The adults will get to grips with planning, navigation, kit, keeping everyone safe and happy and more. We’ll join up to share stories of our day and leave inspired for amazing family adventures. Adults expect to walk 5-8km on undualting ground. Kids maybe less, but not more – it depends on how hard we play! Sugessted age : 7+

Kids having fun usually means muddy and/or wet kids! It’s well worth packing extra socks and jumpers (and everything else if you know they’re likely to get carried away!) in their hill bags. Crocs or sandals mean they can paddle with no worries about wet shoes. It goes without saying, lots of food and drinks!
For the adults; you’ll need hill type clothes, good footwear, a small rucksack with you lunch, drinks and snacks (& any personal stuff you need. If you’ve got waterproofs them bring them – if not just ask and we can lend you some.
We’ll supply all the maps, compasses and learning materials.

Walk Leader - Kelvyn James
Kelvyn James is a working International Mountain Leader who has guided clients all over the world – here in the UK he’s a Provider and Course Director for Mountain Training courses and specialises in mental health support sessions. He’s also an Outdoor First Aid, First Aid for Mental Health & Safeguarding Instructor as well as having qualifications in psychology & counselling.
Kelvyn is also the founder of Wellness Walks and is passionate about the benefits of giving people the opportunity to get out into nature. He has lived experience of mental health issues and specifically cites time spent in the outdoors and, crucially, time spent with other people, as fundamental to his own journey to thriving.
Kelvyn’s favourite walk in the UK is a loop of the fabulous Grisedale Valley – on a good day this can be via the tops and its famous Striding Edge – but he’s just as happy to wander around the valley with his dog, the Wellness Walks mascot Missy Mischief.
His top tip is – we should all be more dog – learn to make every day an adventure.Â
